I just bought the MEX-BT577U and installed it. I really like the unit but iPhone 3GS users will be disappointed that they cannot connect via the the USB port like they can with their iPods. Sony’s advertisements are misleading the consumer by saying that the unit offers iPhone connectivity. It’s not unreasonable to assume that when they say iPhone 3G compatible that means the latest 3G iPhones being sold. I would also like to mention that I bought directly from Amazon and when the product arrived, despite being marketed as new, there was evidence that it had been opened (e.g., dusty faceplate, wrinkled installation manual, etc.). Other than those problems the unit is working good, a great price for all that it can do.

I bought this, I still have it in the car, but I hate it. Useless, how can you use a radio when you can’t see the screen, the screen is faint and dim, even at night, and non-existant during the day. You would have to study the screen for 2 minutes trying to call out using bluetooth, less dangerous to just text freely. This isn’t a cheap unit, I know it’s not Clarion or Kenwood, but it was more expensive than it’s rivals, and I thought it would be due to quality. This unit is cheap feeling and flimsy. I had to call Sony re one wire only, I got a blanket ban, ‘Sony does not give advice on installation’. Then Sony shouldn’t make poor products, with poor quality instructions. The unit lacks simple control, like an equaliser or a play button and how can you do anything when you can’t see anything on the screen. My BMW has clear/easy on the eyes amber screens, this thing was supposed to change colour and match my car, it may say so on the site, but call them and they tell you NO! False advertising, Sony must have hit hard times. A waste of time and money, I am looking for a replacement, this piece of junk is going back.

The SONY MEXBT5700U has exceeded my expectations. It works perfectly with the iPhone 3GS over Bluetooth both for hands free calling and for audio streaming. Audio quality while streaming with Bluetooth is indistinguishable from tethering the iPhone with USB (this also works well, controls the iPhone and charges it) I have read complaints about the bright light ring around the main control knob but I don’t think it’s an issue if your unit is installed below steering wheel level like mine.
I upgraded from a two year old SONY w/o USB or Bluetooth and all my music sounds better and has more impact, it seems more dynamic, even with identical audio settings. I also have a SONY wired remote and a SONY CD changer connected and both work great. The DSO feature is something I had to have with this unit. It raises the sound stage up for front speakers mounted low in the doors. Works great and all audio settings including DSO are specific per input.
I couldn’t be more pleased with this purchase.

This is an amazing unit. It plays all cd formats, has a tuck away usb port on the face to charge your iPhone or Ipod, plus you have full control of the music on the device. It can connect to your phone via bluetooth and has a built in mic and an external mic so you can talk easily hands free. It also has an aux stereo jack input right on the face of the unit if you use a different type of mp3 player. This is such an easy unit to use and it does sooo much! Very happy with my purchase, this is actually the 2nd unit I bought like this, one for each car I liked it so much. And the price is right for all it is capable of!

Have had this in my car for a few weeks and I love it. Sound quality and adjustments are excellent, bluetooth hands free and voice activated phone is a pleasure and ipod functionality is terrific. Yes, it can be hard to read the display in some kinds of light, but after a few days, you learn the unit and this is no longer an issue. If you’re looking for a head unit with these capabilities, read all of the reviews. Some of the top brands are having trouble with their bluetooth, some with ipod functionality, some of them have funky voice activation glitches — this one just plain works. Plus, it gives great sound. Never thought I’d be this happy with a Sony product, but I have to give it up when they do it right.
