BYD published the first official photographs of the Dolphin G DM-i on 26 May 2026. A full reveal is expected within weeks; dealer deliveries are expected before the end of summer.
The Dolphin G is built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 and measures 4,160 mm in length — 130 mm shorter than the electric Dolphin sold in Europe and 170 mm longer than the Dolphin Surf. It sits squarely in the B-segment, where the Volkswagen Polo, Opel Corsa, and Toyota Yaris compete.
Powertrain — DM-i plug-in hybrid. European media reports suggest the setup is similar to the BYD Atto 2: a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine producing 98 hp, paired with an electric motor. Two configurations are expected: 166 hp combined with a 7.8 kWh battery (40 km EV range WLTP) or 212 hp combined with an 18 kWh battery (90 km EV range WLTP). Total range in either case exceeds 1,000 km.
Design — smooth surfaces, stretched headlights, flush door handles, and a floating roofline are visible in the teaser images. The rear and interior have not been shown.
Pricing — not announced. BYD has not confirmed European pricing or a specific on-sale date beyond “late summer 2026.”
The Dolphin G is a direct response to European import tariffs on Chinese EVs, which do not apply to PHEVs in the same way. BYD’s DM-i system has a strong record in China — the Qin Plus DM-i and Song Plus DM-i are consistently among the country’s best-selling PHEVs.
