Wuling has opened pre-orders for the Starlight L, the largest model in the Starlight family. Wuling operates as a joint venture between General Motors and SAIC; it has a long track record of high-volume, value-focused vehicles in China, most recently with the Hongguang Mini EV. The Starlight L positions the brand higher than that.
Dimensions — 4,980 mm long, 2,950 mm wheelbase, 20-inch wheels, six seats across three rows. Boot capacity: 383 litres behind the third row, expandable to 1,103 litres.
Powertrain — plug-in hybrid. A 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (106 hp) paired with an electric motor (231 hp) and a CVT, with front-wheel drive only. Battery: 37.9 kWh, giving 260 km EV range on the Chinese CLTC cycle. 0–100 km/h in 8.2 seconds. A turbocharged 1.5-litre variant producing 143 hp is expected to join the lineup later.
Exterior — active grille shutters fitted as standard, an under-bonnet LED strip used as a daytime running light, compact headlight clusters, and a full-width illuminated rear light bar. The design is conventional for the segment.
Interior — 8.8-inch instrument cluster, 12.8-inch or 15.6-inch central display depending on trim, and a stalk-mounted gear selector instead of a console-mounted lever.
Pricing in China — from 122,800¥ ($18,100) to 142,800¥ ($21,100). The Starlight L does not include LiDAR, a refrigerator, or massage seats — features that have become common in competing Chinese PHEVs at similar prices. The price advantage over those alternatives is around 30–40%.
