SAIC-Volkswagen showed the ID.Era 5S, a PHEV sedan for the Chinese market. It’s the second ID.Era model after the 9X crossover, which went on sale in China in March from ¥199,900.
The 5S is 4,836 mm long on a 2,766 mm wheelbase — D-segment sedan dimensions, comparable to the Volkswagen Passat (4,916 mm). Powertrain: 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (109 hp) paired with a 177 hp electric motor. EV-only range: 160 km on the CLTC cycle. Battery capacity hasn’t been disclosed.
Design
The 5S shares the 9X’s styling language — smooth nose, split-level headlights, single rear light bar. Semi-hidden door handles replace the fully retractable units on the 9X. Blue ambient lighting on the exterior indicates that the autopilot system is active. No lidar (the 9X has one above the windshield).
Interior
A single multimedia tablet rather than the 9X’s dual-screen layout. Further interior details haven’t been released.
The 5S is designed and sold exclusively for China. A launch by end of 2026 is confirmed; pricing and full specifications haven’t been announced.
