Pre-orders are open for the Renault 4 Plein Sud. It’s the R4 E-Tech Electric with a 92×80 cm canvas roof operated by an electric motor — the same powertrain, the same 420-litre boot, the same 409 km WLTP range. Prices from €37,290 — €9,300 above the entry-level R4 at €27,990.
The roof mechanism folds in three sections rather than the usual four, which Renault says keeps the weight penalty lower. Both rows of passengers sit under the open roof when it’s back. A wind deflector runs along the front edge to reduce cabin noise at speed.
Renault says the canvas roof was designed into the body structure from the start, which is why cargo space wasn’t compromised. The opening is partial rather than full-length — 92×80 cm covers roughly the front half of the roof.
Powertrain: identical to the standard R4
150 hp, 245 Nm, front-wheel drive. 52 kWh battery, 409 km WLTP.
Updates across the entire R4 range
Three additions that apply to all R4 variants from this production run, not just the Plein Sud: a driver monitoring camera in the left A-pillar, an emergency stop function when the driver releases the wheel, and an improved heat exchanger for faster charging in cold weather.
Historical note
The original Renault 4 came in a canvas-roof Plein Air / Parisienne version in the 1970s. The new name is a direct callback.
Two trims: Techno from €37,290, Iconic from €39,290.
